How It Works

Tell us about yourself

First, we ask you a series of introductory questions. We use this information to curate your experience, assign you to a group of 6-8 people, and create walking routes for you.

Book an outing of your choice

Next, you'll book your walk. Once you purchase a ticket (or a membership), your spot on the walk will be reserved and you'll be all set - we'll handle the rest of the planning!

Review your itinerary

One day before your outing, we'll send you detailed information about your group assignment, starting point, and walking route in your Outerly account.

Walk & meet new people

You'll meet your group at the designated starting location and time. Afterward, you'll have the opportunity to meet other members of the Outerly community at a common ending point.

What is Outerly?

Outerly is a service that matches you with like-minded people for small group outings around your city. Our overall mission is to beat loneliness by connecting people outdoors!

Who should join Outerly?

Outerly is for everyone! We believe that human connections are best cultivated IRL, outside. We welcome you into our community no matter your background, beliefs, or identity.

What is an Outing?

Outings are our curated, small group walks around the city. Before you register for an Outing, you take a short personality quiz, choose a day and time, and then we assign you to a group of 6-10 like-minded people and provide a walking itinerary.

All you have to do is show up!

How are small groups chosen?

When you join your first Outing, you'll fill out a questionnaire so we can learn more about you. We then use a combination of technology and human power to curate groups of like-minded people each week.

How much does it cost?

One single outing ticket costs $10. We also have various membership options available which give you access to unlimited outings.

What's included with an Outing ticket?

Each Outing ticket includes matching you into a hand-picked group of 6-8 people, conversation starters, a pre-planned map of your walking route including a starting and ending point, and the option to follow up with people you met afterward.

How long are the walking routes?

Most walks are between 2.5 to 3.5 miles, and is designed to take 1 to 1.5 hours. We select walking routes based on the preferences you state in your questionnaire.

Do you offer refunds if I can't make my walk?

No, we do not offer refunds for walk tickets. However, you may receive a credit for a future walk if you cancel more than 48 hours in advance (see below).

What is your cancellation policy for a walk?

If you are booked for a walk and cancel more than 48 hours in advance, you will receive a credit for a ticket to a future walk. If you cancel after this time, we are unable to move or change your reservation. We do not offer refunds for walk tickets.

If we have to cancel a walk for weather or other reasons outside of our control, you will receive a credit for a future walk.

Where is Outerly available?

Right now, Outerly is available in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. However, we have plans to expand into new cities soon. Register here to request your city and stay in the loop about Outings nearby!
